Parent to Parent of Georgia Statement Regarding the U.S. Department of Education Reduction-in-Force

October 14 2025

At Parent to Parent of Georgia, we know that change can bring uncertainty. With the recent news of staff cuts at Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS), many families may be wondering what this means for the support they count on.

We want you to know this: we are still here for you as we have been for over 40 years. Not only does Parent to Parent of Georgia serve as Georgia’s Parent Training and Information Center (PTI); we are also the Region B Parent Technical Assistance Center for Parent Centers like ours in 12 southeastern states.

We understand how overwhelming it can feel when your child is newly diagnosed or when you’re trying to find the right educational and/or medical resources. In fact, during the past year, we’ve supported approximately 12,000 individuals through the P2P Supporting Parents program (parent matches), trainings, support groups and community events—and we’ll keep showing up, no matter what. Our team remains dedicated and ready to help parents of children with disabilities to navigate special education and healthcare systems across Georgia.

On November 29, 2025, the nation will recognize the 50th anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), enacted by Congress to ensure students’ rights to a free appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment. As decisions are being made at the federal level, our commitment to listen, empower, and connect with families will remain the same. We believe in the power of parents helping parents—and together, we’ll keep making Georgia a place where families and children can thrive.
