Helping Every Child Become a Strong Reader: What Parents Should Know About Georgia’s Literacy Laws

October 13 2026

Georgia’s literacy laws continue to shape how schools identify and support young readers. This session will provide a parent-friendly overview of Georgia’s newest literacy legislation, including HB 1993, with a special focus on literacy coaching, first-grade readiness, and what those changes may look like in schools and classrooms. We’ll also review what remains the same, including requirements for universal reading screening and support for students who need additional intervention.

Presented by Amy Denty, Director of Literacy, Georgia Department of Education, and Dr. Nik Philmon, State Literacy Coaching Coordinator, Georgia Department of Education
