Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

What is MTSS?  What does it mean for my child?

  • Georgia’s Tiered System of Supports for Students is expected to improve student academic and behavioral outcomes in Georgia.
  • Georgia Tiered System of Supports consists of five essential components including:  Screening, Progress Monitoring, Multi-Level Prevention System, and Data-Based Decision Making. Georgia added Infrastructure as a fifth component to ensure schools can build preventive educational systems that can be personalized and meet the needs of every child.
  • Georgia tiered System of Supports uses data to make decisions and create continuous school improvement processes that support academic, behavioral and well-being outcomes of all students to prepare them to be successful high school graduates.
  • Leadership, Effective Teaming and Professional Learning are essential components of Infrastructure and crucial to improving academic, behavior and well-being outcomes for all students
  • Family and community engagement is a critical component of Georgia Tiered System of Supports. Families play a huge role in implementing the framework. Parents are encouraged to be actively involved and engaged in their children’s education and to participate in all decisions regarding increasing supports, interventions and/or other related changes to their child’s core curriculum. Their role is important in supporting the improvement of their child’s academic, behavioral and well-being outcomes.
