Support from Other Parents

Parent & Family Support

Support from Other Parents

Seeking support from other parents can help overcome feelings of isolation, confusion and stress. It can help you get a new perspective and a glimpse of somebody who has walked in your shoes. There are many different ways to access support. You can talk to other parents either face to face, over the phone or online.

Request a Supporting Parent

At Parent to Parent of Georgia, our coordinators will be able to match you with a volunteer supporting parent who can listen and share their experiences. Parent matches are unique to your situation. For example, you can speak to someone whose child has the same disability, has a child in special education in your area, or has experience with a therapy or treatment your child needs. Give us a call at 800-229-2038 to find a Supporting Parent.

Georgia Support Groups

Much of the information that will be helpful to you is in the hands, heads and hearts of other parents with similar needs. Some support groups are organized around a specific disability, such as Cerebral Palsy, Learning Disabilities, or Autism, while other groups may welcome parents whose children have different disabilities but share similar concerns such as daycare, transportation or healthcare. Within each of these groups, information, emotional and practical support and common concerns can be shared. Call Parent to Parent of Georgia at 800-229-2038 to find a support group near you or search the Parent to Parent Special Needs Database.
